Peri-Implantitis

After you have had an implant placed, your dentist will have conveyed to you the importance of keeping it very clean – implants are still at risk of developing gum problems just like natural ones.

Peri-implantitis, which presents as a swelling of the gum around the implant, is a serious condition that needs to be dealt with immediately. Just like classic periodontitis, inflammation of the gums indicates active bone loss underneath. This is very bad news for your implant as it means its stability is compromised and is at risk of falling out. It is imperative that you see a specialist as soon as possible so that your implant can be preserved.

Our periodontist is very experienced in dealing with implant complications and can offer a variety of non-surgical and surgical options to get your implant to full strength.
